Nate Kern has established himself as one of the most promising racers of his time. He had only ridden on the track a few times before his March 2002 debut at Daytona Int’l Speedway where he won 8 of 8 races and was immediately moved to pro status.
He continued his winning ways with 2 victories during his first race weekend as a regional pro! The 2002 season rounded out with 38 podium finishes of 42 races and 3rd place overall in the CCS Mid Atlantic Championship.
In 2003 he was invited to race in the FIM BMW Motorrad Boxer Cup at Daytona where he qualified 42nd and finished 20th, making up the most positions in the race.
2003 ended with 2nd overall in WERA lightweight twins and won a WERA Formula 1 Championship.
2004 proved to be even more exciting when he received the honor of an invitation to compete a full season in the prestigious FIM Int’l BMW Motorrad Boxer Cup. There he had the opportunity to learn a great deal on and off the track, competing against high-caliber riders from around the world.
Returning to the States, Nate chose the underrated BMW R1100S Boxer Cup bike to race during the 2005 season. With 123 races in the CCS Mid Atlantic and Southeast Championships, 50% podiums were achieved, 94% top ten finishes, and 23 wins. Nine class Championships were achieved and as overall Champion in the CCS Mid Atlantic and Southeast regions, Nate walked away with his first #1 plate.
Wearing the # 1 plate, Nate started 2006 with 4 wins at Daytona in the CCS races and continued his streak with a win in the ASRA Pro Series National Thunderbike race. He proceeded to defend his #1 title with a repeat of his wins of the year before at the CCS Regional Pro Series and made history as one of the winning riders of the inaugural Sun Trust Moto-ST "8 Hours at Daytona".
Nate’s 2007 season kicked off with five combined podium finishes at Homestead and Daytona Int’l Speedway. He was consistently running up front and looked forward to the next round of the Moto-ST 3 hour endurance race. Determined to come out on top again, they successfully showed the racing world they were back with a 1st place finish at Virginia Int’l Raceway.
In early spring, Nate was called upon by the BMW Motorrad Factory Team to participate in the world class “24 Hours of LeMans” in France. Serving as a backup rider, Nate proved his abilities in his first outing aboard a new prototype Boxer, pulling off an incredible competitive lap time in his first round of practice. Upon Nate’s return to the States, he was involved in an unfortunate twist of events where he suffered a hard crash that left him unconscious and with serious injuries to his knee, wrist, neck and ribs. For the first time in his career, Nate would miss some races due to injury. After two surgeries and some extensive physical therapy, Nate persevered and returned to racing June 22nd (3 months ahead of Dr’s predictions) and rounded out his first weekend back with two wins, two second place finishes and set a new class track record during qualifying for the ASRA Pro Thunderbike. Through pain and determination, Nate proved to fans everywhere that he was back on track.
His amazing season continued on in July where he pulled off a Thunderbike win at Road America, in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. In early August Nate returned to Barber Motorsports Park, surrounded by BMW fans, and set out to make the brand proud of its achievements. He returned to the track and managed two wins, two second place finishes and once again was known for setting another Thunderbike class track record. As the season continued on, Nate raced at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California, and achieved podium finishes at Summit Point Raceway and VIR. The season finale took place October 18-21st with a return to Daytona to compete in the CCS Race of Champions and with an impressive second place podium finish at the annual Sun Trust Moto-ST “8 Hours at Daytona”. |
